In the middle of the year, PlayStation modified the way PS Plus works. Instead of offering a couple of games per month, this service now offers an extensive list of titles of PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PS4 and PS5, similar to what we find in Game Pass. However, there is a factor that, according to Xbox, this platform still needs, and these are launches day one.
As part of the conversations around the purchase of Blizzard Activision by Microsoft, a Sony representative has indicated that PlayStation Plus would lose its value for potential customers if Call of Duty becomes a series that arrives day one at Game Pass. Thus, Xbox has pointed out that the solution to this possible conflict would be to launch games day one on PS Plus. This was what was said about it:
In addition, even if Microsoft succeeds in growing Game Pass with the incorporation of Call of Duty, the CMA would also have to make sure Sony could not respond through investments or improvements in its service. It is clear that Sony has a range of options to maintain or improve the competitive position of PlayStation Plus.
At least, Sony could include additional and third-party launches in PlayStation Plus on the day and release date. Sony's own exclusive ones that are not included in PlayStation Plus include prominent titles such as The Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man and Final Fantasy VII Remake. The inclusion of such titles would be beneficial for players.
While PlayStation does not oppose the idea of the releases' day one on PS Plus, since it is something we saw with titles such as Destruction All-Stars, the company is not willing to do this with its great releases, such as God of War: Ragnarök. Each company has a different approach to this service, with Sony pointing to the platform as a second air for some titles years after they met their normal sales expectations.
In related issues, these are the games that arrived in PS Plus in November. Similarly, Sony reveals why the number of subscribers for this service decreased.
Editor's note:
As already mentioned, Microsoft and Xbox are the only ones who can launch games day one in Game Pass, Sony and PlayStation cannot be affected by losing money in this way. Thus, the statements that were given do not make much sense, and they are only one more way of manipulating conversation in this conflict.
