Mark Cerny, the designer of the PS5 (which was also that of PS4) revealed on Twitter the additional internal SSD model that he chose to install on his PS5 as well as that of his companion. The brain behind the architecture of the Playstation 5 has therefore set its sights on the WD_BLACK SN850 (with thermal sink) Western Digital.
Western Digital is therefore part of the happy elected officials that now offer internal SSDs compatible with PS5. The model chosen by Mark Cerny and available in three versions with heat sink: 500 GB (168.99 euros), 1 to (263.99 euros) and 2 to (545.99 euros). Slightly cheaper versions of these three SSDs, devoid of a heat sink, are also available. Sony, however, recommends using SSDs equipped with a heat sink.
choice for the limited moment
At a time when these lines are written, only two manufacturers propose for the moment SSD whose compatibility with the PS5 is guaranteed. In addition to Western Digital SN850 WD_BLACK SN850, Seagate Firecuda 530 already works in the newly generation console of Sony too . Like his competitor from Seagate, Firecuda 530 offers several storage capabilities (500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and even 4 TB) with or without thermal sink. And here too, the invoice can quickly be salty (the 4TB model exceeds 1100 euros).
As a reminder, the possibility of increasing the internal storage capabilities of the PS5 is for the moment reserved for participants at the beta of the console firmware. Sony has not yet specified the date on which this option will be given to all users of the PS5. People who participate in the beta program put in place by Sony may find more information on the conditions to be completed so that an additional SSD is compatible with the PS5 at this address. As previously specified, only a SSD Additional Internal Allows you to launch a PS5 game in the same way that it is possible to do it from the basic storage of the console.
